Water levels were fairly high after a deluge overnight, so we opted for a Cwm Dwr trip to have a look at the main stream and have a general explore of the Cwm Dwr passages. We went to the main stream via Flood Bypass, here the water levels were fairly high, but we were able to get to the confluence. There was quite a lot of water coming down the main OFD stream, through the low arch. We headed up the Cwm Dwr stream and found the way up into the Smithy. From here we got back on the main route and headed back out the cave.
Water levels had dropped sufficiently overnight, and were now at about 750mm on the water level gauge in OFD1 (which is just into the amber zone). We thought we'd plan for a OFD2 to OFD1 through-trip and see what the water levels were like at the bottom of Maypole Inlet.
At the OFD Top entrance we met some students carrying in a bag of sandwiches for their friends doing a OFD1 > OFD Top > OFD1 trip. We headed down to Maypole Inlet, with a quick detour to Trident and Judge. Maypole Inlet was all OK and the main stream was a little bit higher than normal, but OK. We headed down stream and had lunch in the Great Oxbow. Then onto the Confluence, Piccadilly, and towards OFD 1.5. Progress along the main stream was slower than normal, as the slightly higher water levels meant to you had to be careful where you were stepping. Divers Pitch was surprisingly dry. We didn't have any route finding issues in OFD 1.5, and after a few snack stops, we were soon in the OFD 1 stream way.
The OFD1 stream way was nice, and Andy spent a lot of time sliding down the chutes and jumping in the pots, followed by a bath in Pluto's Bath. The water level was about one inch above the step.
A really great long trip.
An easy trip today to see the OFD Columns, which were very impressive. It was my first time seeing the Columns. A steady trip taking photos and just taking it easy.
North West Stream Passage and a play with the train system at the dig at the end.
