After a 9am briefing meeting, we all made our way to Leck Fell. The entrance to Notts was found without any fuss, following the directions on the trip description. Bean and Aidan rigged the entrance series, Left Hand Route and the Lower Streamway. Wayne and Andy M rigged the Centre Route. Andy M tested the effectiveness of modern caving helmets by headering a very large cobble kicked down from above. Greg, Andy B, Rich and Danielle descended the Centre Route and returned by the Left Hand Route. Everyone else visited the sump at the bottom of the Lower Streamway before returning to the surface, derigging as we went. Again, the weather was lovely and the views over towards Morecambe Bay were stunning.
Back at the YSS, the ropes were washed and packed for the next day. We then went into Settle for a beer or two and a great meal at the Ruchee Indian Restaurant.
We arrived in Kingsdale at 10am and quickly found ourselves at the entrance to Rowten. Greg volunteered to rig the Eyehole Route and Bean volunteered to rig the Big Gully Route. Bean then went on to rig the bottom part of the cave, down to the sump. Bean, Aidan, Matt and Andy M visited the bottom while Danielle, Rich, Greg, Andy B made their way up and out via the Big Gully Route. Bean, Matt and Aidan then exited via the Eyehole Route, derigging as they went. Kim, Wayne and Andy M derigged the Big Gully Route. Again the weather was very nice.
Lovely low water levels. It makes the trip quite a bit easier as you don't really need to rig the deviations etc, you can just abseil straight down and not get that wet.
